Summary of Middle School Life

Today is June 28, 2022, the day my junior high school entrance examination ended, and also the day that marks the end of my junior high school life.

When the primary school to junior high school transition was over, I faced a choice - whether to apply to my current school or choose the best private junior high school in the local area. This was a happy dilemma, but it made me think for a long time. In the end, with the insistence of my family, I chose to study at my current school, a school that I am very familiar with, referred to as "RS" below.

Academic Life#

In-Class#

When I first entered the junior high school department of RS, I thought I was the protagonist (after all, I was in Class A and didn't have to pay for food and drinks), but as soon as I entered the class, I was shocked. I was the 17th student in the class, while the 16th and 18th students were top students in primary school. I felt a lot of pressure, so when introducing myself, I just said "I'm under a lot of pressure." The first exam confirmed my view - I only received a second prize. But at that time, I still had a lot of motivation, and I achieved the best results in the whole grade in the mid-term exam. At that time, I couldn't have imagined that it would be the only time I ranked first in the whole grade. After that, I experienced the most painful lesson in my entire junior high school life. In that exam, I focused too much on the last question in math and ended up failing the whole exam, getting the lowest ranking in the entire junior high school - around 60+. Since then, I became more cautious, and my grades remained in the top 10.

In the second half of seventh grade, we encountered the pandemic and started online classes. That period of time was probably the most enjoyable time for me (after all, I could slack off). I learned a lot about computer technology during that time. Of course, this semester was relatively stable, and I basically stayed in the top ten.

In eighth grade, I became the top student. During this school year, I achieved top three in the whole grade several times, but in the final exam of the first semester, I only received a second prize - the second worst result in my junior high school life! The academic life that year was mediocre, with a focus on extracurricular studies.

In ninth grade, I felt a tense atmosphere from the beginning. Teachers were constantly reminding us of the countdown to the high school entrance examination, and the competition among classmates was getting fiercer. Fortunately, I performed consistently well that year and could maintain a first prize level.

And then came the highly anticipated high school entrance examination. This year's exam was unexpectedly easy, and many students even felt that they had wasted three years of studying in junior high school. However, this was not a good thing for the students from our school, especially for students like me who couldn't widen the score gap anymore. And so, I went through the uninteresting three-day high school entrance examination, and my junior high school life came to an end.

Extracurricular Activities#

Personally, I find my extracurricular activities more interesting than my academic life.

During these three years, I probably received the most awards in the entire RS. Not to mention the regular awards for each exam, I also received awards in district-level geography, math, English, and physics competitions (I ranked second in the district in English by half a point). In addition, I also received awards in city-level and provincial-level computer competitions (actually, I just wrote an OA system during online classes and ended up with a second prize at the provincial level).

Besides that, I probably also hold the record for the most "titles" in RS. I was awarded the "Outstanding Class Cadre" and "Three Good Student" at the district level, "Outstanding League Member" at the city level, and nominated for "Nanyue Youth" at the provincial level...

These are probably the few things that I can consider as achievements (vanity) in these three years.

Complaints#

Academic#

To be honest, I'm not really a "study fanatic" (although some people mistakenly think I am). Before entering ninth grade, I never did any extra practice. But in the summer vacation of eighth grade, everything changed. Encouraged by my two neighbors, I joined the army of doing extra practice. After entering ninth grade, due to the math section of last year's high school entrance examination, I started doing a lot of related exercises, such as "questions without diagrams," "generals and horses," "hidden circles"... (although I still don't really understand "hidden circles" until now). As a result, I studied until after midnight on many working days, with less than 5.5 hours of sleep each day (there was even a week when I slept less than 30 hours in total). However, no one could have expected that this year's high school entrance examination would be so simple (you did a great job, Examination Yuan)!

Health#

Under such a heavy academic load, my health also had some problems. In the second half of ninth grade, I experienced symptoms of low blood sugar and high blood pressure due to excessive nervousness. My blood pressure even reached "150+/100+" several times, and my heart rate was also very unstable, with a difference of nearly 150 beats.

Social Life#

Although I don't want to admit it, I'm really not good at socializing, especially in ninth grade when almost the whole class treated me as a public enemy. I think the reasons are as follows:

  1. They think I don't understand things (although sometimes I pretend not to).
  2. They think I show off sometimes (everyone has different perspectives, and I can't argue with that).
  3. They think my competitiveness affects them (but in reality, I'm not competitive, they are).
  4. ...

However, I am fortunate to have a group of friends who support me, starting from seventh grade with the "mur cat group" to Kai Xiong in ninth grade (although we didn't sit together during the final exam, which made me sad).

Overall, I consider myself a complete failure in terms of socializing.

Open Source#

During my three years of junior high school life, I actively participated in the open-source community and learned many new computer technologies. I developed my first Python package, django-vditor, and contributed to the development of ArozOS.

Emotions#

Family#

Entering junior high school and adolescence inevitably led to some conflicts with my parents. Although there were some behaviors of my parents that I couldn't understand, overall, I am grateful to them.

Adolescent Romance#

Honestly, there is no such thing as a good laugh.
